Department Overview
The Telemetry Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital provides high-quality continuous cardiac monitoring and specialized nursing care for patients requiring intermediate care. Nurses in this unit work closely with physicians respiratory therapists and virtual nursing teams to manage acute medical-surgical and cardiac conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Rhythm Monitoring: Interpret telemetry strips recognize life-threatening arrhythmias and intervene rapidly.
- Patient Assessment: Assess plan implement and evaluate the nursing care for assigned patients.
- Medication Administration: Safely administer prescribed medications and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team including virtual nursing and support staff to ensure seamless patient admissions discharges and education.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate timely and compliant electronic medical records.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program (Associates Bachelors or Masters in Nursing).
- Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of current acute care hospital RN experience with a strong preference for direct cardiac or telemetry experience.
- Licensure: Active unencumbered Virginia RN license or Multistate Compact License.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
