Job Summary
Primary Purpose
The Operating Room (OR)/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit ( PACU ) Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients before during and immediately after surgical procedures. The OR/ PACU Nurse collaborates with surgeons anesthesiologists surgical technologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Essential Functions
Contribute to OR/ PACU workflow policy and patient care protocol development and implementation. Assess patients prior to surgery and review medical histories laboratory results and surgical consents. Supports the operating room equipment instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. Serve as a circulating nurse during surgical procedures or scrub nurse if needed. Document patient care surgical events and procedural outcomes accurately and timely. Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and recovery expectations. Comply with ASC policies regulatory requirements and professional standards. Assist the surgical team during procedures and respond to emergencies. Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention protocols. Support teaching mentoring and interprofessional education initiatives. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Provide care with a diverse patient population. Provide staff coverage as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Current RN license in the state of California. Basic Life Support ( BLS ) Advanced. Cardiovascular Life Support ( ACLS ) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) Certification. One (1) year of full-time general nursing care experience in an OR and/or PACU .
Preferred Qualifications
Ambulatory Surgery Center ( ASC ) experience preferred but not required for strong candidates with relevant surgical or procedural experience. Supplemental courses or continuing education credits in patient management and surgical techniques desirable.
Work Schedule
This position is Monday through Friday on a part time or per diem basis.
