Job Summary:
TheRegistered Nurse (RN)at Lakeview Surgery Centerprovides skilled nursing care using knowledgeable evaluation and assessment techniques in planning for care and treatment of individual patient needs. Utilizes assessment skills plans for continuity of care able to individualize patient needs. Understands the importance of patient education and offers goal directed nursing care to patients.

Reports to Director of Nursing
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Experienced with circulating on ophthalmology procedures including cataracts and glaucoma with willingness to learn retinal and corneal procedures.
Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process.
Organizes time equipment supplies and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members.
Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time.
Assists with supply drug and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability.
Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room.
Organizes time equipment supplies and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures safety requirements and patient needs.
Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicates such information to all members of the surgical team.
Reviews patients medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members.
Provides comfort and reassurance to patient.
Maintains patients privacy and dignity.
Explains intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient.
Performs the circulating nurses role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures.
Prepares operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed.
Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment supplies and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure.
Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia.
Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures.
Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards.
Assists with identification and confirmation of operative site and is involved in the time out procedure.
Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly.
Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/directions.
Documents patient care records and other forms completely and accurately in the SIS Complete EMR according to policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Privacy Practices & Patient Bill of Rights.
Able to identify educational psychosocial and cultural needs.
Maintains knowledge regarding medication medications utilized anesthesia medication and/or herbal therapies and associated risks.
Aware of and able to successfully carry out infection control and environmental safety practices.
Communicates a positive and caring attitude toward patients peers staff and all other persons to whom there is contact.
Seeks guidance directions and assistance where/when needed.
Understands and follows centers policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of all PHI.
Knowledgeable regarding all patient care equipment including use of and cleaning of.
Knowledgeable regarding supply location.
Knowledgeable regarding emergency procedures.
Other duties as assigned to include inventory/expiration validation/stocking.

Qualification/Certifications/Licenses:
Graduate of an Accredited Registered Nurse Program
BLS Required
Current unrestricted State of Maryland Registered Nurse License
Must be detail oriented and well organized
Working Conditions:
Environment: This position is located in an Ambulatory Surgery Center. Physical Demands: this position requires extensive mobility walking and standing. Most of the days work involves pushing pulling and lifting patients or equipment. There is a potential exposure to patients with communicable diseases and/or blood borne pathogens.
