Job Description

Summary:
UT Health Tyler is seeking experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurses for a high-acuity Neuro Critical Care unit. This position requires nurses with dedicated Neuro ICU or Neuro Critical Care experience caring for patients with acute stroke traumatic brain injuries post-neurosurgical procedures spinal cord injuries elevated intracranial pressure and complex neurological conditions requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.

Candidates must possess strong neurological assessment skills and hands-on experience managing advanced neuro devices such as EVDs ICP monitoring systems and lumbar drains. This is not a general ICU position. Candidates without recent Neuro ICU experience should not be submitted.

Float assignments to ICU IMC and Telemetry may be required based on operational needs.

Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to Neuro ICU patients.
Perform advanced neurological assessments and monitoring.
Manage patients with acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.
Care for patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
Monitor and manage elevated intracranial pressure (ICP).
Manage External Ventricular Drains (EVDs) and Lumbar Drains.
Provide care for post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgical patients.
Care for spinal cord injury patients.
Implement hypothermia protocols and Arctic Sun therapy when indicated.
Manage mechanically ventilated neurological patients.
Administer blood products and manage central venous access devices.
Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias.
Collaborate with neurology neurosurgery critical care and interdisciplinary teams.
Document all patient care accurately within Epic EMR.
Float to ICU IMC and Telemetry units as required.

Key Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of recent Neuro ICU experience.
Neuro experience is mandatory and cannot be substituted with general ICU experience alone.
Previous travel nursing experience preferred.
Epic EMR experience required.
Strong experience with stroke and neurosurgical patient populations.
Experience with EVDs ICP monitoring lumbar drains and post-neurosurgical care required.
Must be comfortable floating to ICU IMC and Telemetry units.
Night shift availability required.

Qualifications

Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
ADN or BSN accepted.
BSN preferred.

Experience:
Minimum 2 years recent Neuro ICU experience required.
Previous travel nursing experience preferred.
Teaching Hospital experience preferred.
Community Hospital experience preferred.
Level I or Level II Trauma Center experience preferred.

License:
Active RN License.
Texas RN License or Compact RN License required prior to start.
