Position Summary

Provides direct patient care triage services immunizations and travel counseling to Hamilton College students and serves as a patient advocate. Works collaboratively as part of the Health Centers clinical team which includes other RNs Nurse Practitioners Physician Assistants a physician and office coordinators. This is a non-exempt benefited part time position with a 90% work schedule (1638 hours per year).

Responsibilities

  • Perform triage on patients both by phone & in person assess need & schedule as warranted and document pertinent patient information in the chart not limited to but including allergies current medications vital signs and overall health information.

  • Follow established written protocols and conduct any screening tests as required.

  • Administer medications immunizations and other therapeutic or diagnostic procedures (blood tests eye exams ear irrigation etc.) within the framework of established protocols.

  • Provide individual patient teaching health education counseling and act as a patient advocate.

  • Work with various equipment: laptop/docking station laboratory equipment (centrifuge refrigerators) office equipment (copier fax) and clinic equipment (scales otoscope BP cuff etc.). Monitor all equipment for maintenance and repair. Notify supervisor of any issues in a timely fashion.

  • Annually review RN protocols and procedures and provide updates in collaboration with other office staff and practitioners as they develop.

  • Assist in maintenance of inventories for immunizations medications and health-related supplies.

  • Maintain contact with sales representatives and keep co-workers aware of pending orders.

  • Perform point-of-care laboratory testing as required to include: rapid strep tests rapid mono tests urine dips urine pregnancy tests and assist with hemoccult testing as addition to documenting results upload specific results to NYSDOH using the ECLRS system.

  • Maintain a safe and comfortable work environment by cleaning equipment regularly and wiping down exam rooms between encounters.

  • Review travel itinerary for students planning to travel/study abroad and review CDC guidelines with such students including updating their immunizations as recommended and arranging for travel medications when indicated. Collaborate with on-campus clinicians to plan for the care of such students. Communicate with the study abroad program when needed. Meet with special groups that have scheduled travel during the semester in order to educate the group with CDC recommendations and work with individuals needing further supports for their upcoming trip.

  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all interactions involving patient care. This includes SOAP notes progress notes official logs and records. Review of allergies and medical reconciliation should be completed at each office visit. This also includes review of incoming student required health information verifying student vaccination records and making sure information is accurately noted in our ICM module following up with all students that have outstanding requirements.

  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance activities designed to evaluate and improve college health services

  • Maintain certification in the nursing field by maintaining licenses without any lapses maintaining malpractice insurance keeping BLS certification current maintaining infection control certification as well as HIPAA certifications per state and/or campus guidelines.

  • Participate in conferences continuing medical education and in-service programs to remain current in the profession and knowledgeable around new and emerging issues. Make sure CME contact hours are in compliance with NYS guidelines.

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from accredited school of nursing required. Bachelors degree preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience in nursing required.

  • Current license to practice in New York State and BLS certification are required.

  • Proficiency with travel counseling and vaccinations is preferred.

  • College health and/or EMT-related experience preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education & experience will be considered.

Compensation Range:

$32.00 - $40.00 per hour
