Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing leadership direction and oversight to specific manufacturing and/or packaging locations for Food Safety Quality and Regulatory (FSQR). This position exists to ensure that the facilities deliver the required standards of quality and product safety per corporate and site policies procedures and practices. This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement at the respective sites and working with Corporate FSQR to ensure alignment in programs. The position delivers these accountabilities by partnering with operations specifically the facilities leadership team. The position is required to provide a high degree of focus on accountability of people and processes innovation and the ability to ensure quality and product safety of all products being produced and packaged in their region of responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a team consisting of FSQR Managers including annual reviews and career progression. Support the development and management of behaviors of site level FSQR personnel.
- Oversight of one of the corporate FSQR owned systems (Lists lab management and safety management of change RedZone etc).
- Support the customer and consumer complaint process to ensure timely and thorough investigations with root cause and action items appropriately identified by the sites.
- Support the investigation and risk management through site level FSQR incidents including acting as the communication liaison between the site and Corporate FSQR Manager through resolution.
- Work in partnership with site level FSQR and operations teams to develop corrections and corrective actions following GFSI and 3rd party (customer NSF FDA etc) audits.
- Responsible for the verification of effectiveness checks following corrections and corrective actions.
- Support FSQR objectives for the facilities within reporting structure to identify trends and drive improvement year over year.
- Ensure adequate implementation of corporate FSQR policies at the sites responsible for.
- Review prior to presentation and attend presentation of facility management review. Support team to proactively identify gaps/trends to improve overall FSQR systems.
- Lead recruiting efforts with Talent Acquisition Manager to hire and retain FSQR employees at the site.
- Thoroughly review facilities food and/or animal food safety plans to ensure evaluation of risks is appropriate based on previous years performance.
- Review the outputs of mock recall and crisis management drills program to determine effectiveness.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in Food Science Chemistry Engineering or other related science field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing others.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a food feed or USP manufacturing FSQR laboratory.
- Strong knowledge of International Safety Protocol (ISP) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Standards and Regulatory Requirements of FDA FSMA HACCP Programs.
- As applicable knowledge of USP regulations.
- PCQI-certification in Human and/or Animal Feed preferred.
- Highly self-motivated high energy and ability to work independently and team contributor and collaborator show initiative and drive positive change in system processes and culture.
- Ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures as well as all applicable local/state/federal regulations.
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills and able to manage conflict in a stressful environment.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and ability to work successfully under pressure in a fast paced and challenging site environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels throughout the organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel to sites domestically and internationally.
