Job Summary

Schedule: Full Time 40 hours per week Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Department: Day Center Ypsilanti MI

What Youll Do In This Role:
The Recreational Therapy Aide plays an important role in creating meaningful experiences that enrich the lives of our participants every day. Working alongside the Recreational Therapy team youll help plan and lead fun engaging activities that promote physical cognitive emotional and social well-being. From encouraging meaningful connections to supporting independence and enhancing quality of life youll make a lasting impact while helping participants stay active engaged and connected.

Key Responsibilities

Activity Planning & Execution
  • Assist with planning and leading engaging recreational and therapeutic activities including games crafts music exercise outings and special events.
  • Support individualized and group programs including dementia-specific activities that promote participants physical cognitive emotional and social well-being.
  • Collaborate with the Recreational Therapy team to develop activity calendars and provide input on programming based on participants interests abilities and needs.
Participant Engagement & Support
  • Encourage and support participant engagement by creating a welcoming inclusive environment where everyone can actively participate and enjoy activities.
  • Adapt activities to meet individual physical and cognitive needs while escorting participants safely to activities and community outings.
  • Collaborate with the care team to promote meaningful participation and serve as a resource for participant engagement and recreational programming.
Environment & Supplies Management
  • Set up and clean activity areas before and after programs.
  • Maintain general order in recreation and activity spaces.
  • Conduct routine supply inventory and assist in ordering materials for the department.
Documentation & Communication
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for all activities.
  • Document participation and behavioral changes in the participants medical record as required.
  • Observe and report notable changes in participants behavior or participation to Recreational Therapist or clinical staff.

Skills Knowledge & Expertise

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with the elderly.
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of employment.
