The Ready-Mixed Concrete Driver safely operates a commercial concrete mixer truck to load transport and discharge ready-mixed concrete at customer job sites. The driver is responsible for safe vehicle operation accurate delivery documentation product care customer service required inspections and the cleanliness and condition of assigned equipment.
- Safely operate a ready-mixed concrete mixer truck between the assigned plant and customer job sites in compliance with company policy and applicable traffic and motor-carrier requirements.
- Position the truck under the plant loading system confirm the assigned load and follow plant and dispatch instructions before leaving the facility.
- Review delivery information and travel by a safe authorized route; communicate promptly with Dispatch regarding delays access concerns breakdowns rejected loads or other exceptions.
- Evaluate job-site approach ground conditions overhead and underground hazards clearances traffic pedestrians and escape routes before positioning the truck. Stop and request assistance whenever conditions are unsafe or unclear.
- Remain in control of and with the assigned truck while on duty unless authorized by a supervisor or required by an emergency.
- Assemble operate clean fold and secure discharge chutes and related equipment. Ensure chutes and attachments are properly stowed before travel and follow all company chute-safety and spotter requirements.
- Discharge concrete safely and as directed by the customer or contractor without compromising safety equipment limits or company procedure.
- Complete accurate delivery tickets and obtain required customer acknowledgements; document water additions returned material delays and other delivery information as required.
- Conduct and document required pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Promptly report defects damage maintenance needs safety concerns and out-of-service conditions through the designated process.
- Maintain a valid duty status and all required driver vehicle and delivery records; comply with applicable hours-of-service drug and alcohol and company recordkeeping requirements.
- Keep the cab mixer chutes and exterior of the assigned truck reasonably clean. Use approved washout areas water release agents and cleaning methods; prevent uncontrolled discharge of concrete or wash water.
- Monitor the mixer and related equipment for safe operation buildup leaks damage or abnormal conditions. Do not operate equipment believed to be unsafe.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and follow all SL&C DOT OSHA plant and job-site safety rules.
- Provide professional courteous service and represent the SL&C appropriately with customers contractors coworkers and the public.
- Assist with reasonable yard housekeeping training or operational duties when directed and when qualified to do so.
- Work assigned schedules which may include early mornings evenings overtime weekends and schedule changes based on business and weather conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the position and operational needs.
- Current valid Class A or Class B commercial drivers license appropriate for the vehicle operated with required endorsements and without prohibited restrictions.
- Current DOT medical certification when required and ability to remain qualified under applicable company and regulatory standards.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record under SL&C policy and applicable insurance requirements.
- Ability to satisfy required pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing obligations.
- Ability to read and understand delivery tickets safety rules vehicle instructions maps signs and written or electronic communications in the language required for the work.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic involving quantity weight volume distance time and money.
- Ability to use a mobile device electronic logging or inspection system and other assigned technology after training.
- Ability to communicate clearly with Dispatch supervisors customers and coworkers and to exercise sound judgment in changing field conditions.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred. Prior commercial driving heavy-equipment construction or ready-mixed concrete experience is preferred but not required.
- TWIC credential is preferred when assignments require access to secured facilities.

The physical demands below describe the principal requirements of the position. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Sit and operate vehicle controls for extended periods; frequently enter and exit the cab using three points of contact.
- Frequently use hands and arms to grasp pull push reach turn controls handle hoses and position or remove chutes.
- Frequently stand and walk on plant and job-site surfaces that may be wet muddy sloped loose or uneven.
- Frequently climb steps and ladders and occasionally stoop kneel crouch or crawl to inspect clean or service equipment within assigned duties.
- Regularly lift or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally handle heavier components with assistance or mechanical aid in accordance with safe-lifting practices.
- Maintain the visual acuity depth perception peripheral vision color recognition hearing and reaction ability necessary to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and work around moving equipment.
- Communicate verbally in loud environments and tolerate whole-body vibration associated with mixer-truck operation.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at plants on public roads and at active construction sites in heat cold rain humidity dust mud and changing weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to moving vehicles and machinery elevated noise vibration wet concrete cementitious dust diesel exhaust and cleaning products used according to their labels and safety data sheets.
- Work may occur near traffic excavations overhead obstructions power lines pumps conveyors and other job-site hazards.
- Required personal protective equipment may include a hard hat high-visibility apparel safety glasses gloves hearing protection and safety-toe footwear depending on the task and location.
The schedule and daily work location may vary according to customer demand production needs traffic weather and equipment availability.
