The Facility

Syracuse VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital on University Hill affiliated with SUNY Upstate Medical University serving Veterans across Central New York. Interventional Radiology works alongside the Radiology Service referring medical and surgical teams IR nursing and radiologic technologists.

Responsibilities
  • Perform vascular interventions: angiography balloon angioplasty and stent placement embolization and chemoembolization IVC filters central line placement and dialysis access interventions.
  • Perform CT- and ultrasound-guided biopsies (lung liver renal lymph node thyroid parotid bone and bone marrow).
  • Place and exchange drains and tubes: biliary nephrostomy chest cholecystostomy abscess suprapubic and radiologically inserted gastrostomy.
  • Perform biliary intervention vertebroplasty paracentesis thoracentesis lumbar puncture myelograms and joint injections.
  • Consult with referring physicians provide post-procedure follow-up and management and finalize procedure reports within 24 hours.
  • Provide phone consultation to VA medical staff while on call; participate in peer review and quality meetings.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology with Maintenance of Certification current
  • Current full and unrestricted New York State medical license (never restricted suspended or surrendered in any state)
  • Hands-on experience across the vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures listed above including moderate sedation
  • VA or other federal hospital experience is a plus
Schedule

Full-time Monday through Friday 8:00 AM 4:30 PM on site. After-hours call covers weekday evenings (4:30 PM midnight) and weekends and holidays (8:00 AM 8:00 PM). Call is taken from home and is phone consultation first; you come in only when an emergency procedure is needed. Part-time and coverage-pool physicians are also welcome. 1099 independent contractor engagement.
