About this Opportunity
I:Provides labor services to PW Maintenance as assigned.
II: Provides labor and technical services in the maintenance installation design and fabrication of traffic control signs and markings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
I:- Performs manual labor and uses hand tools to supplement equipment operations
- Assists in snow removal and pretreating of City streets sidewalks and bridges
- Assists in the maintenance of City streets right of ways and curb/gutter using a combination construction and maintenance materials in conformance with City standards
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies procedures and safety practices
- Attends work regularly at the designated place and time
- Supports continuous process improvement initiatives
- Performs related work as required
- Participates with a small crew engaged in painting street markings designing fabricating and installation of traffic control devices; and repairing traffic control marking fixtures.
- Meets with utility company representatives on site when questions or problems occur involving utility lines.
- Mixes and applies paint for street markings using motorized paint striper.
- Operates welding and cutting equipment.
- Performs rough carpentry.
- Assists in emergency snow removing including driving snow plow and hand shoveling.
- Performs simple maintenance work in equipment including grease and lubrication.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance at work
- Performs related work as required
- Qualifications
I:
Required Education and Experience- High School Diploma or GED and
- Experience with asphalt carpentry concrete forestry traffic signage construction sewer or related work or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
- Valid Drivers License Class A with tanker and air brake endorsements within one year of hire
- Must pass MM II Test within one year of hire to move to PW Traffic Maintenance Worker II
- Ability to work overtime and flexible shifts with short notice
- Ability to report to work within 30 minutes for emergencies and stand-by responsibilities.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED and
- Two years work experience in installation of traffic control devices or
- Demonstration of adequate knowledge of traffic control device installation through work as PW Traffic Maintenance Worker I or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Valid Drivers License Class A with appropriate endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate.
- Traffic MM II Test (Passed)
- APWA Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate (within one year of appointment)
- One Call Class (within one year of appointment)
- Must pass MM III Test within one year to move to PW Traffic Maintenance Worker III (and meet all duties and responsibilities of PW Traffic Maintenance Worker III)
Other Required Qualifications
- Work mandatory overtime and flexible shifts with short notice
- Report to work within 30 minutes for emergencies and stand-by responsibilities

Hourly Rate
The PW Traffic Maintenance Worker I/II are covered under the AFSCME Bargaining Union and all new hires begin employment at the new hire rate regardless of years of experience. Employees in this classification receive a step increase on their anniversary. The steps effective 7/1/2026 include:
