GENERALPURPOSE

Performsa variety of journey level skilled duties related tothe construction installation maintenance and repair of city utility servicesystems including streets water transmission and distribution and wastewatercollection. Performs blue staking asrequested.

Worksunder general supervision of the Crew Leader.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Receivesproject assignments and completion schedules; takes assigned equipmentmaterials and manpower to the appropriate site and completes the project asdirected by the supervisor.

Performsinstallation maintenance and repairs; operates a variety of hand or powerequipment; cleans tools and equipment to assure proper working order.

Operatesspecialized heavy equipment in the construction maintenance and repair ofvarious department projects and sites.

Participatesin work site safety procedures; sets up barricades safety signs and signalequipment; may perform flagging assignments to assure work zone safety.

Checksand services assigned equipment; performs routine maintenance and emergencyrepairs; reports mechanical problems to the shop for repair.

Regular and predictable attendance

Performsrelated duties as required.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

A. Graduation from high school or equivalentGED.

B. One year experience in construction maintenance or repair of water/sewer distribution systems.

C. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of operating basic manual and power tools; the standard practices methods materials and tools necessary for pipeline construction and repair activities; pipe fitting procedures; the occupational hazards and safetyprecautions of trench work construction and pipeline maintenance work; hazards common to heavy equipment operation; safety standards related to street construction and maintenance; material andmethods of constructing roads drain systems etc.; water supply and distribution systems; construction requirements for waterdistribution and pumping systems; hazards associated with water treatment chemicals; state or federal regulations governinginstallation and maintenance of water systems; water quality laws; interpersonal communication skills.

Advancedskill in the operation of heavy equipment of various kinds under varyingconditions; perform heavy physical labor; develop and maintain effectiveworking relationships with co-workers elected officials local agencies andthe general public; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work from blueprints; tolerate weatherextremes in the work environment; ability to perform basic mathematicalcomputations in reading and using various meters gauges and related devices.

3. SpecialQualifications:

May be required to obtain a level II wastewatersystem operator certification.

May be required to obtaib a level III waterdistribution operator certification..

May be required to become acertified backflow technician.

May be required to become a certified flagger.

Must possess a CDL.

Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds.

Must work on-call and 24 hourstandby.

4. WorkEnvironment:

Tasksrequire variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strainsuch as walking standing stooping sitting and reaching. Talking hearing and seeing essential toperforming required job functions. Common eye hand and finger dexterity required. Mental application utilizes memory fordetails verbal instructions emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Daily local travel required in normal courseof job performance. Daily exposure to outdoor elements and weather extremes.

FLSA AND AT-WILL STATUS

This position is non-appointed andis entitled to the protections of Utah Code. As such the Operator III shall be entitledto due process appeal authority as set forth in Utah Code.

The Operator III position is anon-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
