Position Summary

Public Safety Officer uphold and enforce Livingstone College rules and regulations in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Staff Handbook to ensure the safety and security of the faculty staff students and college property. This position also requires their responsibility for the intake secure storage tracking and lawful disposal of all physical and digital evidence and seized property. They ensure a strict legally sound chain of custody so that evidence remains admissible in court.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and report crimes
  • Conduct routine patrols of thecollege properties
  • Investigate violations to include crimes
  • Assist students staff and faculty with buildingsecurity
  • Render Medical Aid
  • Identify and report safety hazards
  • Parking management and enforcement
  • Assists with special events
  • Log all evidence transactions ensuring absolute accountability from the moment an item is collected until its final disposal.
  • Transport evidence to forensic laboratories if needed and deliver items to officers for court purposes/trial proceedings
  • Coordinate the legal destruction of contraband unreturned stolen goods and expired evidence per departmental and court guidelines.
  • Testify in court if needed regarding the chain of custody and evidence handling procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Associates degree bachelors preferred
  • Experience as a Public Safety Officer & Evidence handling preferred
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Successfully complete drug screen and background investigation
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts
  • Must be available for on-call or special events
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Must work during inclement weather
  • Understand audit preparation prepares for and represents the department during audits of evidence records and storing
