About the role:

Successful navigation of the policy landscape is critical to deploying and scaling a business. Samsara is looking to grow its Public Policy and Government Relations team by adding an experienced agile and capable Manager to forge new relationships represent the company and advance our interests in U.S. State and Local markets. Our team works closely with lawmakers regulatory bodies trade associations industry experts and others to proactively engage in initiatives that advance Samsaras business interests.

Internally our efforts support innovative work across the business including the engineering product strategy legal and partnerships teams. The ideal candidate will enjoy serving as a key contributor on a diverse range of substantive advocacy initiatives aid in identifying opportunities for sales enablement and engagement developing creative strategies and content and representing Samsara externally to key stakeholders in state and local government and allied third parties.

This role is open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area NYC Metro Area and Washington D.C. Metro Area.

In this role you will:

• Help develop and execute policy strategies that advance Samsaras business goals in key U.S. state and local markets on the East Coast Northeast Midwest and Southeast.
• Identify and track proposed bills regulations and policy positions at the state and municipal levels that are relevant to Samsara assessing their potential impact developing strategies for engagement and keeping the business informed.
• Work closely with the sales teams to help create new tailwinds and affect the adoption and usage of Samsaras technologies through policy initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant governors mayors state legislators regulatory officials and trade associations.
• Assist with filings comments testimony and other input for legislative committees and regulatory bodies.
• Manage outside consultants to expand our reach in key state markets.
• Collaborate with other Samsarians in the creation of content (collateral blog posts etc.) that articulate Samsaras vision and values in a manner that is compelling to policymakers.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Bachelors degree required.
• 5 years of relevant public policy political and/or government experience and an in-depth understanding of the policymaking process and government relations in the United States.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in state and local government affairs and advocacy (e.g. legislative wins relationships with officials involvement with third parties etc.).
• Skilled at persuasively and diplomatically advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to concisely summarize policy issues and advocacy points.
• Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a fast-moving dynamic environment.
• Ability to thrive in new situations learn quickly jump in and responsibly manage ones own time and deliverables in a remote work environment.
• Teammate with a strong willingness to pitch in as necessary.

An ideal candidate also has:

• Passion for and knowledge of emerging technology and related public policy issues.
• Experience in state or local government in advocacy or in-house on issues facing highly regulated industries.
• Knowledge and experience with privacy artificial intelligence cybersecurity transportation or other public policy issues related to data-driven industries.
• In-house experience at another technology company.
• The ability to effectively translate government-to-business and business-to-government issues.
• The ability to issue spot identifying potential opportunities for sales enablement and challenges before they materialize.
