Public Law Litigation Associate

About the Role:

A highly regarded full-service law firm with a nationally recognized public law practice is seeking a Public Law Litigation Associate with 3 6 years of experience to join its growing litigation team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney looking to work on complex high-profile matters that impact communities public agencies and local governments throughout California.

The successful candidate will represent cities counties special districts and other public entities in sophisticated litigation involving municipal governance land use constitutional issues municipal finance transparency laws inverse condemnation and other significant public law matters. Attorneys will gain hands-on experience across all phases of litigation while working closely with experienced litigators and trusted advisors to public agencies.

This role offers meaningful responsibility direct client interaction and the opportunity to build a long-term litigation practice within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent public agencies and other clients in complex civil litigation matters.
  • Assist with all phases of litigation including case assessment discovery motion practice mediation trial preparation and appeals.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda pleadings motions briefs and other litigation documents.
  • Support litigation strategy development and case management efforts.
  • Participate in client meetings case evaluations and strategic planning discussions.
  • Assist with oral advocacy in hearings mediations and other proceedings.
  • Manage deadlines court filings and compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas on matters involving public law governance land use constitutional law municipal finance and related issues.
  • Monitor legal developments affecting public agencies and advise clients accordingly.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive and practical legal counsel.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3 6 years of civil litigation experience.
  • Excellent legal writing research analytical and advocacy skills.
  • Experience handling litigation matters through various stages of the litigation process.
  • Strong organizational and case management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Writ of mandate and/or appellate experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
