The provider engagement specialist will synthesize findings and draft a recommendations reporton communicating about emerging substances to New York City healthcare providers with theultimate goalof improving care for people who use drugs. This is a temporary position endinginAugust 31 2026 with some flexibility in hours and the ProgramThe New York City Health Departmentidentifiesnovel substancesofpublic health concern through the New York City drug checking program. Due to the volatility of the drug supply new substances arefrequentlydetected through New York Citys supply such as medetomidine xylazine and BTMPS. The NYC Health Departmentdisseminatesdata about emerging substances of public health concern to service providers people who use drugs and the public to address and mitigate potential health meetingswith New York City healthcare providers healthcare leaders and providers from similarjurisdictionsto discussemerging substances and communication needs including conducting outreach to providers planning meetings draftingtopic guidesfacilitatingmeetings and recording findings by reviewing notestowards generating actionable recommendations for the NYC Health DepartmentReview peer-reviewed literature and other publicationson best practices for healthcare provider communication around emerging substanceWrite recommendations reporton communication and education to providers about emerging duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/ degree in public health or a related fieldpreferred but notrequired.
