Role

Applied Materials is growing at a pace that is driving significant increases in headcount and facilities. As a result we expect over the next five years to have the most exciting and active R&D and manufacturing infrastructure pipeline in our history. The Global Workplace and Infrastructure (GWI) team is responsible for all facilities from acquisition through operation to disposition with a global capital budget of over $1.5B and operating budget of $500M. As a member of the GWI North America Projects Real Estate & Space Planning team you will play an important role in delivering the capital and tenant improvement projects that make this growth possible.

The Project Manager GWI Projects NAM is responsible for delivering hi-tech equipment installation and tenant improvement construction projects across the NAM portfolio including complex cleanroom and semiconductor manufacturing environments using the project delivery and execution strategy best suited to each project. You will manage project scope schedule and budget through all phases of design contracting and construction and will be knowledgeable of construction processes startup testing commissioning and acceptance of systems and buildings.

You will be accountable for a proven track record in managing a safety culture using leading indicators and methods that promote a safe working environment including incident investigation and corrective actions. You will partner closely with business unit stakeholders architecture/engineering firms Facilities Operations and EH&S to develop review and approve design criteria layouts and detailed drawings and to ensure compliance with applicable laws and codes.

You will be based in Austin TX. The role requires travel to support projects across the NAM portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project scope schedule and budget through all phases of design contracting and construction for hi-tech equipment installation and tenant improvement projects.
  • Participate in the planning of facilities changes for laboratories and equipment layouts working toward economy of operation maximum use of facilities and equipment and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal business partners architecture/engineering firms Facilities Operations and EH&S in developing reviewing and approving design criteria layouts and detail drawings.
  • Prioritize re-use of existing designs that have been previously permitted and inspected and work with EH&S to maintain compliance with laws and local codes.
  • Resolve issues related to design criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.
  • Review and estimate design costs including equipment installation labor materials and other related costs categorized by capital & expense and by construction category (similar to CSI categories).
  • Inspect construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings specifications and schedules; participate in commissioning of the facility or improvement and hand-off to the lab owner and/or building operations.
  • Schedule building inspections and obtain inspection approvals.
  • Manage and direct construction project managers as needed for RFIs project scope of work bid comparisons work plan generation and conditional and full use approvals.
  • Manage project budgets cost reporting and closure.

Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in construction project management or facilities engineering.
  • Working experience as a construction project manager or facilities engineer in semiconductor manufacturing (wafer fab) facilities a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor facility systems including but not limited to acid waste and exhaust solvent waste and exhaust chilled/condenser water hot water process chilled water & DI water process gases controls and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of Fire Life Safety and Gas Life Safety Systems and requirements.
  • Knowledge of City Permit requirements National Electrical Code International Building Code and Fire Codes.
  • Knowledge of Environmental & Safety regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of building control systems and remote energy management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of SPC 8D DMAIC FMEA and other related tools.
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD and Windows-based software including Excel Word Project Visio & PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location hire grade job-related knowledge skills experience and with consideration of internal equity of our current team addition to a comprehensive benefits package candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program as applicable.

For all sales roles the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
