Job Summary

Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration engineering and operations related to the installation manufacturing maintenance and removal of signs flexible bollards moveable barriers in-house traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers sign designers planners inspectors IT experts analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking a dedicated and motivated City Planner II to join the Bus Stop Management group. Serving as Project Coordinator the selected candidate will oversee Streets Sidewalks and Plaza Improvement projects to address bus stop locations and ensure the timely completion of all associated sign installations. The candidate will manage a range of complex transportation and traffic-related projects studies and investigations related to 311 requests and the Agency Response Tracking System (ARTS). Responsibilities include documenting existing conditions identifying issues proposing improvements conducting field investigations collecting and analyzing data and evaluating traffic conditions. The role may also involve supervising staff and actively supporting project implementation through site reviews coordination meetings field inspections and preparation of sign orders using the Sign Information Management System (SIMS). Additional responsibilities include reviewing and approving work orders to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications recommending operational improvements to enhance efficiency and preparing or supervising the preparation of reports logs forms and correspondence. Strong proficiency in computer applications and city transportation systems particularly SIMS is essential. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented highly organized and a collaborative team player with strong written and verbal communication skills. Strict adherence to all agency safety protocols is required including the proper use of safety equipment and attire while in the field. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and inclusively fostering professional growth and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders. Preferred Skills
with a valid New York State motor vehicle drivers license will be given preference.
knowledge of traffic engineering principles and standards.
ability to plan and develop projects implement strategies and articulate concise reports.

Additional Information
Note: This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
