Program Manager, Global Membership and Chapter Engagement

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Global Engagement the Program Manager Global Membership and Chapter Engagement serves as the primary liaison between ACS headquarters and its International Chemical Sciences Chapters oversees the programs strategic growth and works in collaboration with other departments within the association. The Program manager guides chapter leaders through formation annual reporting elections programming while also identifying opportunities to deepen member engagement on a global scale.
Key Responsibilities
Chapter Lifecycle Management
- Guide prospective international chapters through formation and approval process ensuring compliance with ACS bylaws and governance standards.
- Conduct annual compliance reviews manage annual reporting timelines and work with chapters to resolve outstanding reporting or office election requirements.
- Maintain accurate records in the ACS membership and chapter management database; generate regular status reports for leadership.
Member & Chapter Engagement
- Serve as a responsive knowledgeable resource for chapter officers across multiple time zones and cultural contexts.
- Design and facilitate onboarding sessions webinars and best-practice workshops tailored to the needs of international audiences.
- Identify and recognize high-performing chapters through award nominations spotlights in ACS communications and connections to leadership development opportunities.
- Collaborate with ACS regional and international counterparts to coordinate joint programming enhance member value globally and support the student-to-professional member pipeline
Program Development & Administration
- Develop refine and manage resources (handbooks toolkits templates) that support chapter programming across diverse regulatory and institutional environments.
- Track and analyze chapter activity metrics and engagement trends; present findings and recommendations to department leadership.
- Manage grant application processes including eligibility assessment award disbursement and impact reporting.
- Monitor budget line items associated with international chapter support programs and prepare periodic financial reconciliations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with ACS Education Publications Career Services and Governance teams to connect international chapters with relevant programs and benefits.
- Represent the Global Engagement team in internal working groups and at external conferences or symposia as needed.
- Support ACSs equity diversity inclusion and respect commitments by ensuring international chapter programs are inclusive and globally accessible.
International Committee Staff Support
- Provide staff support to the ACS Committee (or equivalent advisory body) supporting volunteer leaders who advocate for international chapters and members.
- Plan coordinate and support all committee meetings including scheduling agenda development preparation of briefing materials and post-meeting follow-up such as minutes action item tracking and reporting to ACS leadership.
- Maintain committee rosters manage appointment and onboarding processes for new committee members and ensure continuity of institutional knowledge across volunteer terms.
- Synthesize member feedback chapter data and committee recommendations into actionable proposals that inform ACS international programming and policy decisions.
- Coordinate with ACS governance and legal teams to ensure committee operations comply with ACS bylaws conflict-of-interest policies and parliamentary procedures.
Face-to-Face Engagement & Leadership Events
- Alongside the Program Manager Global Student Engagement lead the planning and execution of the ACS International Chapter Leadership Summit.
- Develop summit programming including keynote sessions peer-learning workshops recognition ceremonies and facilitated discussions; manage logistics such as venue coordination travel support and on-site operations.
- Represent ACS at international partner events to support members in that region and provide them with opportunities for networking.
- Evaluate in-person engagement outcomes and participant feedback to continuously improve the summit and other programs.
Qualifications: Required
- Bachelors degree in chemistry biochemistry international studies communications or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in member services international programming volunteer management or a comparable role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder projects simultaneously across competing deadlines.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience writing for international audiences.
- Proficiency with CRM/membership database systems (e.g. Salesforce iMIS) and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom Teams).
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate international time zones.
- Moderate domestic and international travel required (approximately 20%) including the International Chapter Leadership Summit ACS National Meetings and select international symposia.

This role is based in our Washington DC office. ACS employees work a hybrid schedule consisting of working onsite two days per work week as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose.
A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $90000 $100000 per year.
