The Department of History and Geography in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in Texas history with broader expertise in the history of the Greater Southwest. The successful candidate will also serve as Director of UTAs Center for Greater Southwestern Studies fostering interdisciplinary research public-facing scholarship and engagement with the rich historical resources of the University and the Dallas-Fort Worth accordance with USCIS regulations successful applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The successful candidate will maintain a productive research agenda and serve as the Director of the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies providing intellectual and administrative leadership for the Centers interdisciplinary research public-facing scholarship community engagement and external funding initiatives. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses mentor masters and doctoral research in Texas and Greater Southwestern history contribute to curricular programs within the department and college and participate in the departmental university and professional service. The Director will support the Centers existing programs and develop new initiatives which may include digital humanities projects collaborations with UTA Libraries Special Collections partnerships with cultural and community organizations and grant-funded research and programming.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in History An established record of research and publication in Texas and/or the Greater Southwest commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching courses in Texas history
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in theories methods and/or tools of the Digital Humanities Record of interdisciplinary research and publication Administrative or program leadership experience Demonstrated record of securing grants or other external funding Experience developing or contributing to public-facing humanities projects Evidence of successful collaboration with scholars cultural institutions archives libraries or community partners
