The Professional Tutor provides individualized academic support to students across all Thomas Jefferson University programs and subject areas. This role assists students with a wide range of academic needs supporting learning at various stages from foundational concepts to advanced coursework and capstone-level projects. Tutors meet with students one-on-one either in person or remotely and deliver structured student-centered guidance to promote academic success.Job Description
Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers visitors and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Provides individualized tutoring to students across Jefferson programs and subject areas supporting undergraduate and graduate-level coursework including advanced and capstone-level learning.
- Assists students with understanding course material developing academic skills and applying concepts through guided practice and problem-solving strategies.
- Delivers timely constructive verbal and written feedback to support student learning and academic progress.
- Maintains accurate scheduling session documentation and records of tutoring interactions in accordance with program guidelines.
- Completes required training and collaborates with academic support leadership to ensure consistent service quality and alignment with tutoring standards.
Competencies (Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required):
Calendar/scheduling; expertise/experience with tutoring and writing support/instruction preferably in a university or writing center setting; experience with best practices for writing support; excellent communication both oral and written
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelors degree required; graduate degree or graduate student preferred
AND
Experience:
- Some experience tutoring or working one-on-one with students on writing preferably in a university writing center or learning center
