Job Summary

Laboratory Technician
As a Laboratory Technician you will be responsible for performing laboratory testing to provide reliable and analytical services to Operations and customers in a timely manner.

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies processes and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Completes material analysis to determine characteristics and waste profiles
  • Makes determination of pH screens for oxidizers peroxides cyanides and sulfides and identifies fuel and water compatibilities
  • Determines heat of combustion (BTU value) total halogens and completes water analysis (by Karl Fischer) percent solids and paint-filter liquids
  • Utilizes Company Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Performs compositing packaging organizing and proper disposal of retain and other waste samples
  • Stocks and organizes laboratory areas and storeroom with chemicals and laboratory supplies
  • Performs instrument checks including refrigerators balances hoods thermometers and pipettes
  • Utilizes and upholds good laboratory practices (e.g. QA/QC documentation maintenance/minor repairs housekeeping professionalism)
  • Maintains ability to assist other laboratory shifts as needed
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization

Education:
  • High-school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associates / bachelors degree in a science related field (preferred)
Experience:
  • 2 years of laboratory experience (required) -OR-
  • In lieu of experience an associates degree in a science related field (required)
  • Environmental laboratory experience (preferred)
Competencies:
  • Basic computer program knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills to complete work assignments to expectations
  • Ability to utilize a hands-on approach to testing training and performing equipment maintenance
  • Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
