About the Opportunity:

Depending on certifications appointments to this position could be as a Probation and Parole Officer I or II.

Pay Range:
Probation and Parole Officer I $36.43- $46.48
Probation and Parole Officer II $42.17- $53.85(Must be DPSST Certified for Probation and Parole at time of hire)

Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring for a highly collaborative and supportive individual to join our team as a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO). An essential function of this role will be supporting a caseload of people from various backgrounds.

This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs) by holding them accountable to the conditions of their supervision while supporting their efforts to live successfully in the community.

  • Learn and use self-defense tactics including the use of protective devices issued by the department.

  • Activelyparticipatein annual training and demonstrations on proper field security physical defense and arrest tactics and practices.

  • Learn to handle disarm and control weapons in a safe and proper manner.

  • Meet a variety of physical exertion requirements in the use of equipment and in the control and manipulation of resisting JIIs.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with individuals of varying backgrounds including JIIs court and law enforcement personnel and thegeneral public.

  • Establish andmaintaincooperative working relationships with individuals including co-workers and supervisors.

Education and Experience:

Probation and Parole OfficerI

  • Bachelors degree in any concentrationANDThree (3) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field.Possession of aBachelorsdegree in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.OR

  • Associates degree in any concentrationANDFour (4) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field.Possession of anAssociatesdegree in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience.OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalentANDFive (5) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field.

Probation and Parole Officer II

  • Bachelors degree in any concentrationANDThree (3) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field;OR

  • Associates degree in any concentrationANDFour (4) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field;OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalentANDFive (5) years of experience in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field.


Possession of aBachelorsdegree in corrections criminal justice counseling social work or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.

  • Mustpossessa drivers license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.

  • MustacquireandmaintainCPR and first aid certification.

  • Must meet all certification requirements as a Probation and Parole Officer by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) within 18 months of hire(for Probation and Parole Officer I)

  • Must be certified as a Probation and Parole Officer by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) upon hire (For Probation and Parole Officer II).

  • Must be a UScitizen orbecome a US citizen within 18 months of hire.

  • Must be able to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment psychological assessment and the DPSST pre-employment medical exampriorto appointment.
