Probation Aide

Education:

Completion of two (2) years of study (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) at an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:

The equivalent of one year full-time experience working in a probation delinquency prevention detention recreation with youth rehabilitation legal or related program.

Special Requirements:

A thorough background investigation will be conducted on all prospective Probation Aides.

Must be willing to work all assignments locations and varied days of the week.

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators license is required. A good driving record according to DMV negligent operator guidelines and qualifications for automotive insurance is also required.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Knowledge of:

• General causes of crime and delinquency.
• General understanding of the role of the probation officer in juvenile and criminal justice system.

Ability to:

• Organize thoughts and make sound judgments.
• Learn and receive training working with juveniles and adults who are involved in the criminal justice system.
• Carry out instructions communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

1. A review of applicants applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
2. A review of the supplemental questionnaire to determine best qualified. Those candidates considered the best qualified will move on to the next step in the examination process.
3. An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.

Disaster Service Worker
