The Responsible AI group focuses onidentifying measuring mitigating andmonitoringResponsible AI risks in AI-generated and human-generated content spanning text image audio video and multimodal content. We are looking for a Principal SoftwareEngineering Managerwho is passionate about building customer-facing AI services with scalable and sustainable architecture and implementationand withhigh performance low latency and high availability.

In this role as a Principal Software Engineering Manager you will lead a team ofsoftwareengineers andworkcloselywithpartner teamsof engineersscientists and product managersto build the industrys best Responsible AI services. You willget achanceto be hands on with the teamcollaborating on the technical artifactsleadership and team process.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of software engineers hiring growing andupskilling their talent

  • Review the design and code artifactsthat make uplarge-scale distributed cloud services and solutions with a focus on high availability scalability robustness and observability.

  • Lead project development across the organization and work with subject matter experts and stakeholders to drive development and release plans.

  • Ensuresystems owned by the teammeetbusiness requirements and service KPIs.

  • Take end-to-end responsibility for thedevelopmentlifecycleand production readiness of the servicesthe teambuildsand drive the teams DevOps culture.

  • Ensure the team followsbest practices of modern software engineering through code and design reviews and take effective service decisions based on data and telemetry.

  • Understand Microsoft businesses and collaborate with stakeholders towards cohesive end-to-end experiences for Microsoft customers.

  • Embrace a growth mindset and stay up to date with the current andstate-of-the-arttechnologies to improve customer experience and better serve the products business needs.



Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including but not limited to C C C# Java JavaScript or Python OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including but not limited to C C C# Java JavaScript or Python
    • OR Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including but not limited to C C C# Java JavaScript or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of directly managing software engineersbuildingbackend services cloud infrastructure or platforms
  • 5 years technical engineering experience designing and deliveringhighly available large-scale cloud services and distributed systems.
  • 4 years of technical engineering experience with machine learning model infrastructurehosting and operations.
  • Ability to navigate the company and influence and inspire peers in engineering and broad product development.
  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge and understanding of software architecture design tradeoffs and practices of mature DevOps culture.
  • The track recordof pursuing and delivering innovative insights that translate to value generation.


Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142800 - $274800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188000 - $304200 per year.
