Custom Scope

The position serves as the lead technical expert for financial analytics performance measurement and revenue optimization reporting within the ZSFG Vice Deans Office. The role is creating new analytics capabilities methodologies and decision-support frameworks to address complex financial challenges for the Vice Deans Office. This is done by applying advanced knowledge of healthcare decision support operational analytics and financial performance measurement to lead complex projects that support strategic and operational decision making. Serves as a technical leader in the analysis interpretation and reporting of large and complex datasets derived from clinical operational financial and administrative sources.


Leads the design development and continuous improvement of standardized performance reporting processes dashboards scorecards and analytic frameworks that enable leaders to monitor organizational performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Develops and implements data governance reporting methodologies and performance measurement standards that ensure the integrity reliability and consistency of analytic outputs.
Performs advanced analyses of operational and financial trends utilization patterns productivity measures service performance and organizational outcomes. Applies internal and external benchmarks industry standards and best practices to evaluate performance identify gaps and generate actionable insights that support operational excellence and strategic initiatives.

Partners with operational clinical and administrative leaders to define business requirements translate complex questions into analytic approaches and communicate findings through meaningful reports visualizations and presentations. Leads cross-functional projects requiring sophisticated quantitative analysis predictive modeling and the integration of data from multiple systems to support evidence-based decision making.
Functions with a high degree of autonomy and serves as a subject matter expert in healthcare analytics performance measurement and decision support methodologies. Develops innovative metrics reporting solutions and analytical processes that improve organizational visibility efficiency and performance across departments and service lines.

Department Overview

The Zuckerberg San Francisco General has been a training hospital for UCSF since it opened in 1872. The first

formal Affiliation Agreement between the UCSF School of Medicine and the City/County of San Francisco was

implemented on July 1 1959 to address UCSFs role in the operation of ZSFG. The current written agreement

dates from August 1994.

The original Agreement called for the University to provide sufficient professional and support staff for the

departments of Anesthesia Cardiology Clinical Laboratories and Anatomic Pathology with the City reimbursing

the University for expenditures incurred. The Affiliation Agreement provides for an annual budget renegotiation.

The Agreement also states that the University of California will provide all the professional medical staff at Zuckerberg San Francisco 1959 there were 3 full-time attending physicians; currently there are approximately 1000 active and courtesy medical staff. UCSF also operates undergraduate and postgraduate medical training programs at ZSFG. More than 900 UCSF residents rotate at ZSFG each year. At any one time there are 263 resident positions funded directly by the City/County monthly at an annual cost of $33 million dollars. There are many postgraduate and graduate positions assigned to ZSFG and paid by UCSF for patient care training and research. UCSF has a major undergraduate teaching program at ZSFG; there are 350 third- or fourth-year medical students at the hospital as well as dental pharmacy and nursing students.

Over the years UCSF has developed and largely paid for the non-academic infrastructure necessary to support research teaching and patient care activities. There are approximately 1000 non-academic UCSF staff at the ZSFG campus of which approximately 500 are paid for by the City through the Affiliation Agreement budget to provide patient care-related services.

UCSF manages both owned and leased assignable research space at ZSFG. The research grants/contracts under the management of the Chiefs of Service at ZSFG total approximately $178 million in annual direct and indirect dollars.

The total amount of UCSF professional fees and managed care collections from charges of $ 237 million at the ZSFG campus totaled more than $75 million in FY24. All revenues generated by professional fee billing are retained by the UCSF departments at ZSFG to support programs sited at ZSFG.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related area
  • In-depth understanding of decision support systems with knowledge of business statistics quantitative methods relational databases business development scorecards data modeling and performance and profitability analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of issues and aspects of clinical finance planning financial data management budget development and business development. Proficiency in utilizing the tools to produce comprehensive studies and actionable intelligence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing complex SQL queries with a minimum of 7years in direct experience working with large data sets.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills and ability to lead a team prioritize tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to lead projects and teams and collaborate productively on highly-complex projects with key personnel at all professional and technical levels.
  • Advanced written and verbal communications skills with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear concise manner and to make cogent presentations of analyses reports and investigation results.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills analytical ability and in-depth knowledge of documentation and reporting with the ability to run highly complex queries and studies to collect and analyze financial and performance data and to produce relevant meaningful reports analyses and forecasts.
