Job Summary

Preschool Tennis Instructor

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madisons public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic recreational arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction MSCR on the Move arts & enrichment classes youth summer camps sports camps & clinics adult & 50 fitness adult sport leagues including pickleball softball and tennis and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports pontoon trips camping orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary middle and high schools Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment homework/academic clubs drama dance skiing soccer basketball volleyball cross country and much more!

Program Description:

MSCR Sports Programming aims to inspire the community to lead active healthy lives by connecting each other through community leagues classes and wellness activities. Our preschool programming focuses on creating a safe & supportive environment where kids can grow their self-esteem while building social and motor skills.

Job Description & Duties:

Teach fundamental tennis skills including hand-eye coordination racket control and basic ball contact.
Work with kids and their accompanying adults to create a positive learning experience.
Help children develop confidence and motor skills in a supportive non-competitive setting.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Start Date:9/14/26

Work Location:MSCR West Gym

Hours/week:2-4 hours per week (more available as needed)

Work hours:Mondays 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Payrate:18.00 - 18.00 /hour

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience working or volunteering with youth.
Reliable transportation to work site
Strong communication and customer service skills both verbally and in writing.
Must possess basic tennis knowledge (serves coordination racket handling ball contact).
Ability to follow oral and written instructions with a minimum of direct supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively and exercise good judgment courtesy and tact when dealing with children their parents/guardians and the public.
Previous experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged children.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team.
Self-directed and motivated to create and develop engaging plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous tennis instruction experience and/or experience working with preschool-age children.
