Job Summary

Pottery Studio Assistant

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madisons public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic recreational arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction MSCR on the Move arts & enrichment classes youth summer camps sports camps & clinics adult & 50 fitness adult sport leagues including pickleball softball and tennis and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports pontoon trips camping orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary middle and high schools Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment homework/academic clubs drama dance skiing soccer basketball volleyball cross country and much more!

Program Description:

MSCR Arts Department offers an open studio program and multiple ceramic classes to all ages. The MSCR West pottery studio is looking for a studio assistant who can help the pottery coordinator keep up with studio procedures cleaning and maintenance.

Job Description & Duties:

Pottery Studio Assistant will support the Pottery Coordinator at MSCR West by helping with reclaiming and pugging clay kiln shelf maintenance cleaning and organizing the studio clay inventory loading and unloading the kilns and more.

Work Location:MSCR West

Hours/week:Up to 15 hours per week

Work hours:Flexible

Payrate:18.00 - 21.00 /hour

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience working with clay.
Understands the material through all stages: plastic leather-hard bone-dry bisqued glaze-fired.
Familiar with clay reclaiming processes.
Familiar with ceramic firing processes.
Have experience working in a ceramic studio.
Be able to lift at least 50 lbs. bend and exert a moderate to high level of physical activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Loading and unloading an electric kiln.
Reclaiming and pugging clay.
Ceramic studio maintenance and upkeep: electric wheel adjustments pugmill experience checking sink traps wet cleaning processes.
