Position Highlights

The Song lab () at University of Arizona is actively searching for Postdoctoral Research Associates to join our Neural Engineering and Regenerative Medicine team. Our Laboratory engineers advanced microphysiological platforms 3D-bioprinted constructs and regenerative scaffolds that bridge the gap between cell biology and clinical translation and is fully funded collaborative and actively publishing.

Youll develop in vitro and in vivo models focused on neural repair tissue regeneration and disease modeling with a strong emphasis on conductive biomaterials and microphysiological systems. Active funded projects include a human blood-brain barrier-on-chip platform for stroke modeling (AHA Career Development Award) and a novel neuromodulation strategy for spinal cord injury recovery (NIH Directors New Innovator Award DP2). The work spans molecular cellular assays biomaterial design organ-on-chip engineering and translational validation - giving you breadth across biological scales thats hard to find in a single lab. Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research on neural repair tissue regeneration and disease modeling with a strong emphasis on conductive biomaterials and microphysiological systems
  • Carry out analysis of research samples using advanced techniques and validate the measurements
  • Document process and analyze research data
  • Disseminate research results through publishing papers and providing presentations in recognized scientific journals and conferences
  • Help oversee a team of graduate and undergraduate research assistants to conduct the studies
  • Participate and prepare grant writing with a principal investigator
  • Contribute to report writing for funding sponsors
  • Maintain lab equipment regularly and help oversee a lab to conduct experiments safely

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn new skills outside of current discipline and comfort zone to accomplish project goals
  • Demonstrate broad theoretical and practical knowledge within the fields of tissue engineering or cell biology
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong work ethic communication skills and team-player oriented personality

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biology neuroscience biomedical engineering chemical engineering materials science electrical engineering mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • The selected candidate must have a conferred Ph.D. upon hire.
  • Strong scientific track record demonstrating well-organized design and execution of studies.
  • Experience in biomaterials cell culture and molecular and cellular assays.

Preferred QualificationsIt would be terrific if the candidate has experience in any of the following areas (not required):
  • Experience with animal model experience
  • Experience with cell biology
  • Experience with histology and imaging
  • Experience with microfabrication/MEMS
