HII is seeking an experienced Plumber to join our team supporting the Commander U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program which operates duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods.
As a Plumber you will perform organizational-level (O Level) maintenance and repairs to keep all plumbing and piping systems abord berthing barges operational. Core duties include:
Plumbing & Pipefitting Maintenance
Assemble install maintain and repair piping systems and plumbing fixtures for steam heating potable water drainage and wastewater systems.
Perform cutting bending threading brazing assembling and fastening of pipe and hangers.
Conduct repairs from pier-side connection points to valves taps and fixtures.
Inspect and repair steam water and gas lines from regulator cut-off valves to appliances.
Conduct repairs IAW ANSI A40.8 55 and National Plumbing Code requirements.
Fixture & Equipment Repair
Maintain repair and replace sinks toilets urinals faucets basins showers and drain lines when required.
Replace components such as mixing valves flushometers showerheads water fountains and water heaters.
Install heater insulation jackets and secure units to prevent vibration/movement.
System Testing & Operation
Test piping systems for pressure and proper flow following repairs.
Support annual inspections tank/void opening gas-free processes and CHT (sewage) system repairs as required.
Support winterization and de-winterization of plumbing systems across multiple barge classes.
Service Call Support
Respond to emergency urgent and routine plumbing service calls within PWS-defined time standards.
Work after-hours when emergency or urgent plumbing failures require immediate action.
Habitability & Preservation Tasks
Maintain deck drains and associated piping removing obstructions and ensuring proper drainage.
Support habitability repairs (fixtures waterproof components piping replacements etc.).
High school diploma or Trade School equivalent; technical training/certification in plumbing preferred.
4 years of demonstrated experience in plumbing pipefitting or marine/industrial piping systems.
Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals piping schematics and technical standards.
Familiarity with ANSI National Plumbing Code and OEM installation practices.
Ability to work in shipboard pier-side and industrial environments.
Ability to safely perform brazing threading coupling pressure testing and fixture installation.
General mechanic knowledge and ability to operate various tools in support additional tasking.
Experience supporting Navy berthing barges or shipboard plumbing systems
Support machinist tasks such as drilling tapping boring reaming and grinding of metal components.
Experience with other primary and auxiliary shipboard systems
Knowledge of tag out procedures and hot work requirements per OSHA and NAVSEA standards.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs climb ladders and work in confined spaces aboard barges and in shipyard environments.
- Must consistently wear required PPE (hard hat safety glasses gloves safety boots fall protection) and follow program safety training/briefings
- Regular: MondayFriday weekends and federal holidays may be required for urgent/emergency work
- 10 % Periodic travel to Kittery ME and Groton/New London CT for site inspections and coordination.
