Starting Rate: $37.10/Month
Overall Purpose:
Under semi-direct supervision to perform the highest skilled plumbing and steamfitting work involved in the construction alteration maintenance and repair of plumbing and heating facilities in any of the Company properties to direct the work of a crew and as assigned to perform any type of building construction alteration and repair work where qualified.
Job Responsibilities:
Lays out and performs assigned work: including materials list required tools and instructing assigned employees as to their duties and insuring work in progress is performed safely efficiently and satisfactorily.
Installs removes alters maintains repairs and inspects steam water air sewer drain vent and gas lines sprinkler systems guard railings heating systems plumbing fixtures insulating materials and similar items.
Installs inspects maintains and repairs backflow preventers and maintains associated records.
Bends cuts forms fits and assembles all types of piping using acetylene torch hack saw pipe bender pipe cutter threaded and similar hand or motor driven tools solders wipes and sweats joints; regrinds and resets regulating valves on steam lines operates pneumatic tools in cutting openings for installing pipes; operates electric sewer cleaner and performs similar tasks in connection with the work.
Performs necessary rigging cribbing shoring and bracing as required.
Keeps a clean and orderly area and insures proper maintenance of tools.
Performs promotes and coordinates work with other crafts safe work practices and procedures conformance to standards interpretation of blueprints and manuals.
Prepares reports maintains records and diagrams corrects prints and enters data into computer.
Performs other work as required or as assigned.
Education / Experience Requirements:
Must have three years of experience in plumbing and steam fitting work as a Plumber 2/C or equivalent experience and completed satisfactory progression toward master plumbers license.
Must become a licensed master plumber within three (3) years following the official date of the Payroll Authority for the Plumber 1st Class position or the incumbent is automatically disqualified from this position. Incumbent must immediately enroll in and regularly attend required and acceptable classes to earn a master plumbers license must earn passing grades. If the incumbent fails to attend classes for two terms or semesters the incumbent is automatically disqualified from this position.
Must understand municipal codes pertaining to plumbing and steamfitting.
Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of plumbing and heating equipment.
Must demonstrate the ability to use the tools of the trade and a familiarity with modern plumbing and steamfitting methods.
Ability to interpret and work from plans drawings or written specifications.
Must obtain a Certification to install inspect and repair Backflows within four (4) years following the official date of the Payroll Authority to 1st Class.
Must have a valid CDL Class A with an endorsement for Air Brakes. (1 year to obtain)
Demonstrated skill and ability in plumbing steamfitting and heating.
Working knowledge of established safety regulations and practices.
Ability to instruct and to direct the work of an assigned crew.
Must Pass the Company Administered Standardized Aptitude Test (CAST).
