Job Summary


Responsibilities
Researches collaborates with the community and prepares plans and guidelines for improving the citys physical social cultural and economic environment in order to promote optimum utilization of land and urban design. Gathers analyzes and interprets social economic and engineering data for planning and community development programs; creates maps and reports for planning purposes. Establishes reports and plans regarding urban and community issues; prepares cases for the Plan Board Board of Zoning Appeals and Landmarks Commission. Incumbent works independently or as a team member with a wide variety of neighborhood and community groups City staff and agencies. Must have a working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems; use of ESRI products is desired.

Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the following:

  1. Bachelors degree from a college approved by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB); OR

  2. Bachelors degree in Planning Architecture Civil Engineering Geography Historic Preservation or a closely related field AND one year of professional experience with a planning zoning development preservation architectural or engineering agency or firm.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements
Must possess a valid drivers license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position including current city employees seeking transfer promotion demotion etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
