JOB DESCRIPTION

Monitoring for occupancy reproduction and foraging behaviors
in Pinyon Jay (Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus) in the Grand Valley
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in collaboration with Colorado Parks and Wildlife islooking to hire dedicated students to participate in Pinyon Jay surveys during spring of 2026. The goals of the project include conducting occupancy surveys of Pinyon Jays their abundance and breeding colonies across various sites in Western Colorado. Visual surveys will be conducted between February and May 2026.
Applicants will need to be available at least two mornings a week (weekends optional) frombetween 5 am 11 am for the field work. Note there will be extensive off trail hiking tosurvey locations. Comfort and confidence in unfavorable conditions is preferred.
Additional flexible hours may be available for data entry and analysis. At the end of the fieldseason students are expected to write a summary report regarding their data andexperiences during the project.
Students will be trained by and work with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Colorado Parksand Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management.
Duration: February to May 2026
