Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Physician for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee Illinois to serve as the primary physician for a designated area. Provides medical care and treatment to individuals with developmental disabilities. Writes comprehensive notes concerning the individuals medical status. Writes routine orders for medications treatments etc. Provides each assigned individual a thorough physical examination within twenty-four (24) hours of admission annually and upon return from the general hospital. Participates in the habilitation planning process and prepares required reports in a timely manner.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the primary physician for a designated area.
- Writes routine orders for medications treatments accord with the established schedule and in conjunction with the rest of the individuals Interdisciplinary Team.
- Provides each assigned individual a thorough physical examination within twenty-four (24) hours of admission annually and upon return from the general hospital.
- Participates in the habilitation planning process and prepares required reports in a timely manner.
- Documents a progress note each he/she sees an individual and completes all forms (i.e. injury restraint MIDs etc.) in accord with Shapiro guidelines.
- Rotates standby physician duties to ensure physician services are available twenty-four (24) hours a day to individuals at Shapiro.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating and providing quality medical care to adult individuals.
- Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
- Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating diagnosing and treating adult individuals in accordance with best practices.
- Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Two (2) years of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.
- Two (2) years of professional experience treating adults with intellectual and developmentally disabled individuals.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to work after business hours weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
