Pay Range
$17.25 to $25.79 per hour
The compensation range listed above represents the good-faith range Cary Medical Center anticipates relying upon when making an offer for this position. Starting pay is determined based on factors including but not limited to experience education certifications internal equity and market conditions.
Job Summary:
Cary Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory team!
The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting biological specimens for laboratory testing and assisting laboratory technologists with sample processing. Essential Duties:
- Consistently obtains optimal quality specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
- Responds promptly to computer orders and telephone requests
- Explains the procedure to the patient and answers questions appropriately
- Orders the correct tests as indicated on the Medical Providers requisition
- Responds promptly to STAT and URGENT requests
- Completes draw with one needle stick to obtain sufficient quantity of specimen greater than 95% of the time
- Collects specimens other than blood samples such as nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs for testing
- Demonstrates competency in non-waved testing such as Rapid Strep testing and BHCG testing on urines
- Demonstrates competency in urine dipstick testing and setting up urine cultures
- Labels all tubes correctly and completely
- Demonstrates competency in specimen processing for samples dropped off by satellite facilities
- Follows Universal Precautions
- Maintains appropriate inventory of phlebotomy supplies
- Notifies Primary Charge of the need to address patient questions or concerns related to Billing/Financial Services while to patient is still present in the lab
- Demonstrates competency in utilizing CPSI for patient registration order entry medical necessity verification result entry and result retrieval
- Performs other tasks such as preparing collection kits agar plate kits disposing of outdated samples and scanning as necessary
- Performs daily temperature readings and logging of temperatures on temperature sheets
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned
- Complies with local state and federal laws and regulations.
- No license required - on the job training.
- Obtainment of Phlebotomy Certification required within the first 6 months of employment.
- CPR and basic first aid recommended.
- High school graduate or equivalent GED preferred.
- Completion of in-house Phlebotomy training program.
Availability:
- Depending on department staffing needs you may be asked to work nights weekends and holidays.
