Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Pharmacist duties include but are not limited to: processes prescription orders answers telephones handles patient transactions and stocks inventory in the pharmacy assists in keeping various pharmacy records orders medications and supplies cash collection/management and other duties as assigned. This position performs non- discretionary tasks related to the processing of prescriptions in a licensed pharmacy excluding all duties restricted to a registered pharmacist. Works closely with Pharmacist Pharmacy Technicians and Intern Pharmacists.

FLSA:Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range:$23.86 per hour (Step 1) - $24.33 (Step 2)

CSU Classification Salary Range: $23.86 per hour (Step 1) -$34.07 per hour (Step 19)

Salary step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Work Hours:Work hours will vary based on coverage needs. Standard pharmacy hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Department Information

Our Student Health Counseling and Wellness center provides an integrated approach to care combining both physical mental and various needs of our students. This approach acknowledges the intricate connection between mental emotional physical and spiritual wellness recognizing that a persons mental health cannot be isolated from their overall health. Our multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals fosters an inclusive culture that addresses systemic disparities and creates an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds feel respected valued and are provided with equitable access to quality care. Student Health Counseling and Wellness Services (SHCWS) staff are committed to continuously providing exceptional service for our campus community. We offer a variety of services that are available in-person and online using secure remote technology.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of brand and generic drug names prescription packaging and labeling aseptic compounding techniques and drug disposal protocols. General knowledge of different pharmacy operations practices and procedures; and familiarity with the standards ethics laws and regulations governing pharmacy practices in the State of California.

Abilities:

Ability to understand and use pharmacy and medical terms abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing and dispensing medications; perform the record keeping functions involved in and related to dispensing drugs and inventory management; perform packaging and labeling of drug products; perform calculations for drug dosing; effectively use and maintain the pharmacy automated system to maintain pharmacy and prescription records produce required reports and perform cashiering functions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and exhibit strong customer service skills with patients.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and the required education and training to be a registered Pharmacy Technician by the California State Board of Pharmacy. Equivalent to six months to one year of experience working in a pharmacy setting.

Basic Life support recognition (CPR)

License:

Possess a current valid California Pharmacy Technician license.

RequiredQualifications

  1. Completion of a recognized/accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (includes hands-on training period during externship) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.
  3. Minimum experience and skills in an ambulatory health center Pharmacy and/or in a retail/community pharmacy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Good communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively with a large diverse population including maintaining good relationship between Pharmacy and medical staff.
  5. Ability to use good judgment in responding to or referring questions by nurses physicians and other professional personnel
  6. Knowledge skills and ability to perform basic computer entries.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Working knowledge of all services provided by pharmacy and clinic.
  9. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty students staff and members of the community.

PreferredQualifications

  1. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
  2. One year or more experience in a community retail pharmacy setting.
  3. Experience with electronic pharmacy billing and reconciliation.

Required: CA Board of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Technician License

Preferred: Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification
