The Pharmacy Technician IV
- The Certified Pharmacy Technician IV works under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist to provide services to Pharmacy customers. The Pharmacy Technician IV supports the Pharmacist in providing Pharmaceutical Care. The main areas of responsibility include the listed lead responsibilities over one or more of the following areas: Medication Distribution Sterile Product Preparation Inventory Control Medication Assistance Program coordinator Retail Pharmacy.
- Leads Responsibilities:
- Assists with directing and supporting technicians daily work flow
- Orients and trains staff on responsibilities and work flow
- Provides input for and assists with technician performance improvement discussions
- Provides input for disciplinary actions
- Provides input for staff performance appraisals
- Assists with preparation and maintenance of technician work schedule
- Provides support and troubleshooting to all staff members
- (CMC Community Pharmacy):
- Medication Distribution Responsibilities:
- Liaison between Pharmacy Department Nursing Units and other hospital departments; delivering medications intravenous solutions supplies and devices
- Sterile/Non-Sterile Product Preparation Responsibilities
- Inventory Control
- Establishes productivity indicators service standards benchmarks and inventory turns for senior management
- (Retail):
- Medication Distribution and Profiling:
- Supervises delivering medications to patients at other locations and deposits to the bank.
- Purchasing Responsibilities:
- Ensures that technicians place orders to wholesalers and manufacturers and processes items received to assure correctness of product price and storage.
- Ensures technicians maintain optimal medication IV and supply inventories by using effective inventory and group purchasing practices.
- Ensures that returns to the wholesaler manufacturer or returns to company all recalled out of date and overstocked medications.
- Ensures that technicians maintain records of medications and supplies borrowed or loaned and keeps accounts current.
- Supply Chain Responsibilities
- (Medication Assistance):
- Program Coordinator:
- Compiles monthly and annual statistics
- Processes invoices for payment and provide expense information to manager monthly
- Coordinates any volunteer activities in the program
- Staff Educator
- Meet with manufacturer representatives for updates as needed
- Grant Coordinator
- Completes grant applications and writes grant reports to maintain funds to support the MAP program
- Submits grant reports to the granting organization as required and on time
- Secretarial Responsibilities:
- Schedules and coordinates appointments and meetings maintaining a calendar of activity for the department
- Compiles data (i.e. payroll attendance DUE PI QA) prepares reports composes correspondence types documents and distributes them to the appropriate individuals
- Reviews sorts and files a variety of materials including confidential information
- Maintains departmental records files notebooks and references
- Handles departmental mail and correspondence
- Receives and screens incoming telephone calls; and makes appropriate referrals to staff or departments
- Greets and assists visitors

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of pharmacy experience required.
Licensure Certification and/or Registration: Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required. Pharmacy Technician Certified Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy. Must be customer service oriented. Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures including computer/keyboard. Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment. Must be able to effectively budget time work efficiently and accurately and follow procedures with minimum supervision.

Compensation Range:
$23.97 - $35.96Employee pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications credentials education and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
