The DOT Permitting Coordinator supports the Transmission Line Services (TLS) team by assisting with the preparation submission and tracking of permits required for transmission and fiber projects. This role ensures compliance with state county and municipal regulations while coordinating with internal teams and external agencies to facilitate timely approvals.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing reviewing and submitting permits to ALDOT as well as city and county agencies
Track permit applications and provide status updates to internal stakeholders
Coordinate with ALDOT districts local government agencies and internal teams to resolve permitting issues
Ensure all permitting activities comply with ALDOT Utility Manual and Permit Manual guidelines
Support oversized load route reviews within APCO service areas
Assist in reviewing Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) plans in accordance with MUTCD Part 6 standards
Maintain accurate records of permitting documentation and communications
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook Teams PowerPoint)
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DOT city or county permitting processes
Familiarity with AutoCAD MicroStation or GIS tools
Understanding of engineering drawings such as plan & profile and cross-sections
Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) especially Temporary Traffic Control
Ability to interpret legal documents such as easements and right-of-way agreements
Experience with project management tools and methodologies
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Engineering Business Project Management or a related field preferred OR
Minimum of 3 years of experience in utility transmission distribution fiber design or field operations
