Loudoun County Virginia is looking for skilled and motivated Permit Technicians to join the Permits Issuance Division of DBD in the customer care center. A Permit Technician I position provides an opportunity to contribute to the success of DBD by providing direct customer service ensuring that the applications for building trade and zoning permits are accepted in conformance with the Uniform Statewide Building Code and Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance and that the permitting process is effectively administered.

Permit Technician Is are entry-level positions with no supervisory responsibilities.

What Youll Do:

Provide Front Line Customer Service Support: As a key customer service representative of the countys Customer Care Center responsible for answering busy multi-line switchboard and responding to email and online inquiries from the public. Youll provide clear timely and courteous information on the process for obtaining building trade and zoning permits.
Process Permit Applications: Utilizing the countys electronic permitting system LandMARC accurately analyze permit applications for completeness invoice and issue trade and county-typical building permits. Youll become a subject matter expert on the Loudoun County Permitting process and provide applicants with the information necessary to achieve approval for their residential or commercial project.

Collaborate and Solve Problems: Work with inter-divisional inter-departmental and organizational partners developers contractors and the public to assist in navigating through multiple overlapping processes identify potential issues that may arise and assist with ensuring that timelines are met and issues are adequately addressed. Youll become a trusted partner within your team the local government organization and the development community.
Innovate and Lead: Work in an environment that prioritizes creative thinking and high-quality customer service. Youll contribute to forward-thinking ideas and developing efficiencies in the permitting process.

What Were Looking For:

Ideal candidates will have experience in a fast-paced customer service environment with multi-line phone experience computer/data entry skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities while serving the public.

A passion for local government and a strong interest in the fundamentals of residential and commercial construction permitting and building code requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills that demonstrate a high-level of professionalism when working with customers.
A self-motivated and team-oriented mindset with a focus on internal and external customer service and collaboration.

High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related customer service and/or cash handling work experience in a technical work environment involving automated systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

One year of work experience at a local government or comparable work experience is highly desirable.

Pass criminal and credit background checks.

Must become certified by the Virginia State Department of Housing and Community Development as a Permit Technician within twelve months (12) of starting employment and maintain the required certifications in accordance with Virginia Certification Standards.
