Job Summary

Under the general supervision and at the direction of the attending physician cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon member of the medical staff and Chief Perfusionist be responsible for the operation of the heart-lung machine intra-aortic balloon cell saver Gem 6 Analyzer and Hemotech ACT Hepcon Heparin Management system blood gas analyzer coagulation management devices ventricular assist devices Intra-operative blook component separation devices etc.

Essential Functions

• Confers with surgeons regarding the nature of the procedure to be performed and gather necessary information about the patient to be used inconjunctionwith theoperation of the heart-lung machine.

• Operates heart-lung machine during the surgical procedure performing necessary functions to maintain patients condition.

• Monitors a variety of physiologic parameters during surgical procedures.

• Responsible for maintaining familiarity with physiologic monitoring and recording other procedures so he/she can perform these as directed.

• Maintains accurate records of each perfusion as a permanent copy of the medical record.

• Follows laboratorys procedures for handling specimens processing test analyses and reporting results; maintains quality control records for blood gas hematocrit and electrolyte analyzer on a daily basis all point of care testing in the department; documents all corrective actions associated with quality control testing; maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested and reported to an external source.

• Responsible for the administration of blood under the direction of the patients attending physician.

• Administers IV fluids as well as such drugs Vasopressor Vasodilators Anti-coagulants and other drugs ordered by the physician inconjunctionwith the operation of the heart-lungmachine.

• Manages and assists with insertion of Intra-aortic balloon pumps.

• Manages and assists with cardio-pulmonary support devices ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

• Manages and assists with insertion of ventricular assist devices (Abiomed) etc.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor manager director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Bachelors degree in related field of study.

• Experience - No experience required
