Job Summary

Reports to: Lead College & Workforce Readiness Services (CWRS) Coach (at designated school site)


I. POSITION SUMMARY


The Peer Leader internship is designed for a high-performing high school junior or senior who serves as a positive role model and student leader. Working with OYC Miamis College & Workforce Readiness Services (CWRS) team Peer Leaders help students access college career and academic success resources through relatable peer-centered outreach.

Peer Leaders help promote a school culture where postsecondary planning is visible accessible and encouraged. They support peers in setting goals exploring college and career pathways using available resources and taking steps toward postsecondary success.

The internship also helps Peer Leaders strengthen leadership communication teamwork professionalism and career readiness skills while gaining meaningful work experience.


II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


a. Serve as a positive role model who promotes academic success leadership and college and career readiness among peers.

b. Encourage student participation in CWRS workshops college and career events internships exposure trips tours workforce opportunities and related activities.

c. Conduct peer outreach during approved school-day lunch-period after-school and occasional Saturday hours to connect students with college and career resources.

d. Support in-school and out-of-school programming including workshops student activities presentations events exposure trips and college and career readiness programming.

e. Provide mentoring and 1:1 college and workforce readiness support related to goal setting postsecondary planning college applications scholarships FAFSA career exploration vocational pathways internships employment and other postsecondary opportunities.

f. Support student goal and progress monitoring for assigned students including college and career milestones aligned with OYC Miamis CWRS Program Framework.

g. Maintain a caseload of up to 10 students and document regular check-ins in the student contact log.

h. Refer students to OYC CWRS staff when they need support beyond the Peer Leader role.

i. Support student recruitment program promotion resource distribution and reminders about upcoming opportunities events and deadlines.

j. Assist with daily student attendance monitoring academic-data collection participation records surveys outreach logs and other approved program documentation.

k. Share student feedback and insights that help strengthen programming and engagement.

l. Participate in required training supervision and professional development while demonstrating professionalism reliability confidentiality appropriate boundaries and positive conduct.


III. STANDARDS FOR MEASURING PERFORMANCE


a. Maintain good academic standing satisfactory attendance and appropriate school conduct throughout the internship.

b. Complete approximately 10 internship hours per week while demonstrating punctuality reliability and preparedness.

c. Support student outreach engagement and participation in OYC Miami college and career programming.

d. Assist with assigned workshops events college and career activities and peer engagement efforts.

e. Demonstrate positive leadership and serve as an appropriate role model for peers.

f. Complete follow-ups outreach logs surveys tracking and program documentation accurately and on time.

g. Maintain confidentiality appropriate boundaries and compliance with OYC Miami and school policies.

h. Communicate effectively with OYC staff school personnel and peers and seek staff guidance when needs fall outside the Peer Leader role.

i. Show growth in leadership communication teamwork professionalism and college and career readiness skills.

j. Participate in training supervision and feedback sessions and apply coaching as appropriate.


IV. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS) & MEASURABLE OUTCOMES


a. Internship Participation: Complete 10 scheduled internship hours per week and participate in assigned CWRS activities workshops events and outreach efforts.

b. Student Engagement: Complete assigned peer outreach student check-ins program promotion and referrals to college career internship scholarship vocational training and workforce opportunities.

c. Documentation: Submit attendance records outreach logs surveys participation tracking and related documentation accurately and by required deadlines.

d. Professional Growth: Complete required training and supervision and demonstrate progress in leadership communication teamwork professionalism and confidentiality.

e. Academic and Conduct Standing: Maintain good academic standing satisfactory school attendance and no major conduct or disciplinary concerns during the internship.

Requirements

a. Currently enrolled as a high school junior or senior at a participating high school.

b. Must be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic performance throughout the internship.

c. Must have no major conduct or disciplinary issues and demonstrate positive behavior within the school community.

d. Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to serve as a positive role model among peers.

e. Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to enter and maintain program data as assigned.

f. Strong interpersonal organizational communication and presentation skills.

g. Ability to complete assigned responsibilities independently while maintaining strong communication and collaboration with OYC Miami staff school personnel and peers.

h. Comfort speaking with peers and assisting with presentations workshops outreach activities and student engagement efforts.

i. Demonstrates reliability professionalism initiative confidentiality and appropriate boundaries when working with peers.

j. Must be available to commit approximately 10 hours per week including approved lunch-period after-school and occasional Saturday hours.

k. Must pass required drug screening and Level 2 background check if applicable under OYC Miami internship requirements.
