Job Summary
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care which support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. At a minimum the PCA carries out designated skills that are within those functions of a certified nursing assistant as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span and appropriately interpret information relative to the patients age-specific needs. The PCA communicates data reflective of the patients status and delegated tasks and/or functions. The incumbent works flexible hours which may include days evenings nights holidays and weekends.
Operating Room PCA General Duties:
- Organizes and cleans central work areas patient rooms and patient equipment.
- Assists in operating room turnover including cleaning and removing trash.
- Inventory management of department supplies as delegated by RN or surgical team.
- Retrieval of Blood products from the Blood bank as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieval of specimens and transporting to appropriate laboratory area as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieval of patient beds and equipment from the designated areas as delegated by the RN.
- Demonstrates flexibility to best meet department needs including floating when necessary.
- Surgical experience is preferred.
- BLS required upon hire.
- This position has Zero direct Patient Care and consists primarily of cleaning stocking and turning over operating rooms.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Qualifications
- Completion of Block 1 in Nursing OR Medical Assistant (MA) OR Nursing Assistant (NA) OR required 6 months of experience in the healthcare setting within the last year.
Certification/Licensure
- Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
