Job Summary

Job Title: Pathologists Assistant

Location: Carbondale IL
Employment Type: Contract (13 Weeks)
Shift: Day Shift (Monday Friday 8:00 AM 4:00 PM)

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Pathologists Assistant to support diagnostic pathology services within a healthcare laboratory setting. This role is responsible for assisting with gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens preparing samples for testing and ensuring accurate clinical documentation.

The ideal candidate will work closely with pathologists laboratory staff and healthcare teams to ensure high-quality and timely pathology results.

Key Responsibilities
Pathology & Laboratory Support
  • Assist with gross examination and dissection of surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare and submit specimens for histological and laboratory testing
  • Accurately document specimen details and maintain tracking systems
  • Summarize relevant patient medical histories for pathology review
Clinical Collaboration
  • Work closely with pathologists and supervising physicians
  • Coordinate with laboratory personnel and hospital departments
  • Maintain clear and professional communication across clinical teams
Compliance & Quality
  • Adhere to departmental protocols quality standards and safety procedures
  • Ensure accurate documentation and proper handling of all specimens
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Masters Degree in Health Science Pathology or related field required
Certification
  • ASCP Certification required
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of technical experience in a healthcare setting required
  • 2 years of overall experience preferred
Required Skills
  • Expertise in surgical tissue grossing and dissection
  • Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling and processing
  • Strong clinical documentation and data accuracy skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform intermittent hand manipulation
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
