Job Summary
This is a senior transactional attorney role at a boutique law firm specializing in affordable housing and real estate finance. Sitting alongside the firms leadership you will own complex LIHTC deal structures end-to-end and play a direct part in shaping the firms growth and national reach. The work sits at the intersection of tax law real estate finance and community impact.
- Lead affordable housing transactions involving 4% and 9% LIHTC allocations tax-exempt bond financing and multi-source capital structures from engagement through closing.
- Take full ownership of client relationships and drive deal execution for both for-profit and nonprofit developers across all stages of the development process.
- Draft negotiate and close limited partnership agreements operating agreements loan documents and complex financing instruments spanning multiple regulatory regimes.
- Navigate the intersection of Section 142 (tax-exempt private activity bonds) and Section 42 (LIHTC) to structure innovative transactions.
- Supervise associates and paralegals manage deal teams and contribute to firm training and culture initiatives.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to expand the firms practice and client base nationally.
- 8 or more years of experience in affordable housing transactional work with a strong focus on LIHTC deal structures at a law firm.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage LIHTC transactions from engagement through closing.
- Deep knowledge of Section 42 (LIHTC) and its intersection with Section 142 (tax-exempt bonds).
- Experience drafting and negotiating LPAs operating agreements and loan documents across multi-source financing closings.
- Proven track record of direct client relationship management with developers.
- Experience supervising associates paralegals or deal teams in a collaborative environment.
- Active bar license in good standing; licensed in New York or willing to obtain New York licensure.
- Experience representing developers in both 4% and 9% LIHTC transactions.
- Familiarity with HUD programs (including RAD) GSE financing and GP/LP acquisitions is a plus.
- A portable book of business in the LIHTC or developer representation space is a strong plus.
Base salary: $300000 to $400000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Hybrid role based primarily in New York NY with the option to work from Buffalo NY. Some in-office presence is expected.
