Portland Public Schools seeks an innovative and passionate Secondary Special Education Teacher to join our team and enhance the educational experience for our students.   • Understanding of or demonstrated experience with PBIS and MTSS frameworks
  • Ability to manage complex and stressful situations with sound judgment professionalism and composure
  • High character compassion for students and families and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction and student learning
  • Willingness to contribute to extracurricular programs and the broader school community


Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Special Education endorsement in one or more of the following areas:
    • Cognitive Impairment (CI)
    • Learning Disabilities (LD)
    • Emotional Impairment (EI)
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Ability to facilitate IEP meetings and complete required documentation in compliance with Michigan Special Education Rules and IDEA regulations
  • Strong foundation in subject area content and Michigan Academic Standards
  • Ability to utilize assessments and student data to inform and adjust instruction
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students staff parents and community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to support and improve student achievement outcomes
  • Commitment to contributing to a positive school culture with high expectations collaboration and strong community engagement


Position Details:

  • Title: Part-Time Secondary Special Education Teacher
  • Location: PACE (Portland Alternative and Community Education)
  • Reports to: Special Education Supervisor and Building Principal
  • Calendar: As per PACE Calendar
  • Compensation: In accordance with PACE agreement (prorated based on FTE)
