Job Summary

Elementary Student Support Assistant (Health & Academic Needs)
Position Summary

The One-on-One Assistant provides individualized support for an elementary student with medical and academic needs throughout the school day. This position is responsible for assisting with health-related care mobility and transfers classroom participation and academic support while promoting the students independence safety dignity and inclusion within the school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Health & Personal Care Support
  • Administer tube feedings and related care procedures in accordance with physician orders district policies and training requirements.
  • Monitor the student for signs of discomfort illness or medical concerns and promptly communicate concerns to the school nurse and administration.
  • Assist with wheelchair mobility positioning and safe transfers throughout the school day.
  • Support toileting hygiene and other personal care needs as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to medical procedures and student care as directed.
  • Follow all confidentiality safety and health protocols.
Academic & Classroom Support
  • Provide one-on-one academic assistance during classroom instruction and independent work.
  • Help the student remain engaged organized and on task during lessons and activities.
  • Modify or reinforce instructional materials under the direction of the classroom teacher and special education staff.
  • Assist the student with communication participation and transitions between activities and locations.
  • Support the implementation of accommodations and goals outlined in the students educational plan.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Facilitate use of the communication device troubleshoot problems and assist with communication.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers special education staff therapists school nurse and administrators.
  • Demonstrate patience flexibility and professionalism in responding to the students physical emotional and educational needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in education healthcare or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children students with disabilities or individuals with medical needs preferred.
  • Ability to safely perform wheelchair transfers and assist with mobility needs.
  • Willingness to complete training on tube-feeding procedures student health care and safety protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift position and assist a student with transfers and mobility throughout the school day.
  • Ability to bend stoop stand and move frequently.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Hours would be 8:30-2:30 M-Th and 8:30-12:30 Friday
