Job Summary:
The Middle School Physical Education (PE) Co-Teacher is responsible for co-planning and co-delivering engaging developmentally appropriate physical education lessons to students in grades 5-6. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness teamwork and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education Kinesiology or a related field.
Certification:
- Valid middle level teaching certification required. Valid Michigan middle level/secondary teaching certification in Physical Education preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience teaching middle school students is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of physical education principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in using technology for teaching and assessment.
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities and fitness exercises.
- Capability to stand walk and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.
- Work primarily takes place in a gymnasium outdoor fields and other athletic facilities.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for events and extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lesson Planning and Delivery:
- Co-Develop and co-implement a comprehensive PE curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
- Co-Design and co-deliver dynamic and varied lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and physical abilities.
- Incorporate a variety of physical activities including team sports individual exercises and fitness routines.
Classroom Management:
- Co-establish and maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
- Co-manage student behavior effectively promoting positive interactions and resolving conflicts as needed.
- Ensure students adhere to safety rules and proper use of equipment.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess students physical abilities skills and progress through formal and informal methods.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage improvement and development.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and report progress to parents and guardians.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues including other PE teachers classroom teachers and school staff.
- Communicate effectively with parents providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings professional development opportunities and school events.
Professional Growth:
- Stay current with best practices in physical education through continuous professional development.
- Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
- Support school-wide physical activity initiatives and health programs.
Terms:
- This position is less than half-time (0.31 FTE) and follows the terms and benefits outlined in the Northview Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Monday - Friday 140 minutes per day following the Northview Public Schools academic calendar:
- Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays:
- 8:50-10:05am and 12:40-2:10pm
- Wednesdays:
- 9:15-10:25am and 12:40-2:10pm
- Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays:
- Monday - Friday 140 minutes per day following the Northview Public Schools academic calendar:
