Job Summary

Dakota State University is seeking a temporary part-time Digital Accessibility Specialist to support campus-wide accessibility initiatives. This position plays an important role in helping ensure that digital content is accessible to all users while supporting faculty staff and students in creating inclusive learning and working environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with training and support on digital accessibility tools techniques and best practices.
  • Review and remediate digital documents including Word PowerPoint PDF and other electronic materials to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Help faculty and staff create and format accessible course materials communications and resources.
  • Conduct accessibility evaluations using approved tools such as Microsoft Accessibility Checker and other accessibility testing resources.
  • Support the creation of accessible multimedia content by assisting with captioning transcripts and other accommodations.
  • Manage and track accessibility requests through a digital ticketing system ensuring timely follow-up and completion.
  • Provide excellent customer service while supporting accessibility-related projects and initiatives.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Experience supporting digital accessibility initiatives in educational professional or other complex digital environments.
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines including WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.
  • Ability to explain accessibility concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Experience reviewing and remediating digital content for accessibility including documents presentations PDFs multimedia and web-based content.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar PDF editing tools for accessibility tagging and remediation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word PowerPoint and Excel with the ability to create and edit accessible documents.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with faculty staff and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience using accessibility evaluation tools such as screen readers automated testing tools accessibility checkers and captioning platforms.
