This position serves as the Superintendent of Cane Creek State Park and Arkansas Post State Park. Cane Creek is located where the gulf coastal plain meets the Mississippi River delta near Bayou Bartholemew the worlds longest bayou. The park is a destination for fishing hiking paddling and biking and features 29 campsites pavilions visitor center fishing piers playground and 20 miles of trail. Arkansas Post interprets life on the grand prairie of Arkansas and features five historic and exhibit buildings.

The Arkansas Department of Parks Heritage and Tourism has three major divisions: Arkansas State Parks Arkansas Heritage and Arkansas Tourism. Arkansas State Parks manages 52 state parks and promotes Arkansas as a tourist destination for people around the country. Arkansas Heritage preserves and promotes Arkansass natural and cultural history and heritage through four historic museums and four cultural preservation agencies. Arkansas Tourism improves the states economy by generating travel and enhancing the image of the state.

Job Summary

The Park Superintendent II is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a small to mid-sized state park or a specific division within a larger park. This role ensures the effective operation maintenance and visitor services of the park while protecting natural cultural and recreational resources. The position requires a blend of leadership operational oversight and customer service skills to enhance public access safety and enjoyment of the park.

Primary Responsibilities

Oversee daily park operations including facility maintenance recreational programs and visitor state regulations park policies and environmental protection trails campsites recreational areas and park facilities are maintained to high in emergency preparedness and response planning including visitor safety and weather-related facility staff park interpreters park rangers maintenance staff seasonal employees and staff by interviewing recommending staff for hire/fire assigning and reviewing work counseling and evaluating the performance of exceptional customer service to park visitors and address public educational and recreational programs ensuring alignment with conservation and heritage park reservations special events and group tours to enhance visitor in educational and recreational programs ensuring alignment with conservation and heritage with budget planning expenditure tracking and revenue generation concessionaire agreements fee collection and park retail operational reports maintenance logs and grant proposals to support park natural habitats wildlife populations and resource conservation invasive species management land restoration and ecological protection projects.

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to supervise and train staff delegate tasks and resolve decision-making and problem-solving skills to address operational in budget management procurement and operational communication and interpersonal skills to engage with visitors and public speaking and presentation skills for educational programs and to handle visitor complaints and ensure a positive park of park operations recreation management and facility with environmental conservation laws safety regulations and state in basic financial management reporting and data to operate maintenance equipment vehicles and tools of hiking trail upkeep wildlife management and habitat and ability to respond to first aid CPR and emergency response protocols (training will be provided).

Minimum Qualifications

At least three years of experience in park management natural resource management outdoor recreation administration or a related field including one year in a leadership capacity.
