The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is the states lead conservation agency providing access for outdoor recreation strengthening communities flood resilience and protecting what Virginians care about: clean water parks natural habitat and open space.

Job Duties

  • Maintain improve and protect park facilities grounds systems resources vehicles and equipment by performing and supervising maintenance projects.
  • Use skills in a variety of trades including carpentry electrical plumbing painting landscaping small engine repair and troubleshooting systems.
  • Supervise and coach wage employees volunteers and alternative labor in the successful performance of these operations.
  • Provide user safety and satisfaction by providing clean safe and well-maintained facilities and grounds; providing good information to guests; and assisting with guest services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience leading directing and training staff or volunteers.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools materials and equipment to maintain facilities and grounds maintenance including mowing landscaping snow removal tree work and trail maintenance.
  • Skills in basic construction and maintenance trades such as carpentry plumbing electrical work and masonry.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff guests and preparing correspondence/reports.

Additional Considerations

  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with software applications.
  • Experience overseeing workplace safety OSHA compliance and safety training.
  • Experience inparks and recreation or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with supervising groundskeeping maintenance construction or other work related to the upkeep and operation of recreational areas.
