Citizenship / Access Requirements: Applicants generally must be U.S. citizens or nationals or lawful permanent residents seeking U.S. citizenship. Non-U.S. citizens require applicable DOJ access waivers. Personnel must also satisfy the DOJ residency requirement of qualifying U.S. residence or federal overseas service for three of the previous five years unless formally waived.

Security Requirements: Must successfully complete BOP/DOJ institutional-security and suitability processing before beginning work. Processing may include a Public Trust investigation at the risk level assigned by DOJ security questionnaires fingerprinting law-enforcement and employment checks identity verification a credit check when applicable release forms and urinalysis when applicable.

Type of Employment: Full-Time Contract Position.

Estimated Compensation: $33.25 per hour

Working Hours: Approximately 40 one-hour sessions per week generally between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM four to five days per week Monday through Friday excluding federal holidays. A 30-minute unpaid lunch may apply. The COR establishes the schedule and may adjust it based on institutional needs.

Work Arrangement: On-site at FCI/FPC Herlong primarily within the Health Services Department. Remote work is not authorized.

Period of Performance: Date of award through 12 months with four potential additional 12-month performance periods and a possible six-month extension for a potential total of 66 months.

Paid Sick Leave: Accrues at one hour for every 30 hours worked up to 56 hours annually.

Paid Time Off / Vacation: Two weeks (80 hours) after one year of service; three weeks after eight years; four weeks after 15 years.

Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven paid holidays annually.

Summary of Services

The Paramedic will provide on-site clinical support to the inmate population at FCI/FPC Herlong. The role combines triage therapeutic care medication and immunization support venipuncture diagnostic testing chronic-care assistance emergency response and documentation in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).

Mandatory Qualifications

Must maintain a current Paramedic license and a current state license authorizing practice in California.

Must maintain current CPR certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Must provide verification of education licensure competency status continuing medical education and other applicable credentials.

Must maintain professional liability insurance of at least $100000.

Must provide recommendation letters from three professional peers.

Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of medical records and sensitive information.

Correctional healthcare experience is preferred but not required.

Must satisfy all BOP/DOJ background institutional-security suitability residency and access requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate patients and provide therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical personnel.

Triage sick-call requests and assist with scheduling patients for appropriate clinical evaluation.

Administer prescribed medications immunizations and skin tests within authorized scope.

Perform venipuncture and administer or withdraw intravenous fluids within authorized scope.

Obtain patient health histories vital signs and other clinical information and document findings in BEMR.

Perform and record diagnostic testing including laboratory collection visual-acuity screening EKGs and CLIA-waived testing.

Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with chronic-care clinics and common chronic conditions such as hypertension diabetes and asthma.

Provide basic first aid CPR preventive-care guidance and emergency support consistent with training and scope of practice.

Monitor patient flow and maintain accurate arrival departure scheduling and triage information.

Review clinical records for completeness and prepare organized medical-record information for internal and external providers and consultants.

Participate in Improving Organizational Performance activities by collecting and aggregating requested data.

Protect medical confidentiality comply with institutional security procedures and maintain professional boundaries with individuals in federal custody.

Provide a white smock or lab coat and wear appropriate professional attire while on duty.
